Years ago the summer after my freshman year in college, I was home for summer break when an older friend who was getting married called to ask if I would be the date for one of the groomsmen for the rehearsal party. I hated blind dates but wanted to help her out and was actually flattered that she had asked. I did go and it turned out to be about what I expected - not bad but not memorable either.

Years later when my son became engaged, my husband and I traveled to Mobile to "meet the parents". My son, his fiance, her parents, my husband and I were seated around the table and had been visiting for quite a while. The conversation turned to my hometown and Amy's father said,"Oh, I was there for a wedding one time." I couldn't believe it and hadn't realized it. Obviously, neither had he. After taking a few moments to recover, I said, "Norm, do you remember your date at that wedding?" He said "Mary Earle, was that you?" Boy was it something to see all the jaws drop around the table. Of course my son Forrest was appalled as well as Amy. Lesson learned - be careful how you behave on blind dates; you never know where they might show up later in life.

I realize this is actually a pre-wedding story but it did add a funny story to tell during the wedding festivities.
