My mother met my dad in Decorah, IA. She was a Beautician and he owned a men's clothing store with his brother, Lester.

You see, my dad was born there. My mother was born in Cedar Rapids, IA.

They saw each other across the room at a dance club. My dad went over to talk to my mother and their eyes melted into each other.

With no time to waste, they were married by a Justice of the Peace a month later.

When my dad brought his bride home to meet his family, his mother answered the door; looked at my mother sternly when my dad announced they were married; then quickly changed her lips into a smile and welcomed my mother into her home.

Upon hearing they eloped, my Grandmother called the Catholic church and asked for a priest to come and marry them. The priest wasn't available, but a Bishop was. They were married as Catholics in the parlor that night. My dad's parents stood up for them. My mother and dad's names were Count and Cherle McCauley.

They lived long enough to have a total of eight kids. My dad had a successful photography business in Forest City, IA and my mother was a homemaker. Both my parents are in Heaven now and half of their children survive them.

A wedding in a Vineyard in CA will celebrate a nephew and new niece in Sept. My dad was able to see this nephew when he was alive and take baby pix of him.

All of us siblings: a brother and three sisters, plus nephews and nieces will be at the wedding and other festivities. While I hear the vows, I will remember my parents and my own vows to my husband on May 7, 1983.

Sincerely,
Sara Rytkonen:)
